The warlock Shade once needed Cabe Bedlam's power in order to revive the Quel and allow them to return to power, in the process ridding Shade of his curse. The Quel's reign of power preceded the Seekers. The Quel have crystal-like armor on their backs. Young Quel have gaps in their shells that they fill with crystals, their shell eventually growing to encompass them inside itself. The crystalline shells make them undetectable by magic, making them invisible to the Dragon Kings. When they retreated to their caverns, they left many artifacts behind for the Wolf raiders and the Dragon Kings.
