The P-917 released in 1974 under the name Porsche 917 but the the name changed quickly. The P-917 was based on the first car that gave Porsche there first 24 hr. Le Mans win. It was always thought the Alternitive color red was the transition piece between 1974/1975, it cover the metal to plastic base. Along with the name change also Porsche to P-917. Just recently discovered a enamel orange piece with a Porsche tampo and a plastic cast into base P-917. Just when you think you have it all figured out a piece shows up and throws a monkey wrench in it.

The blister pack for 1974 was changed to a white background with the cars Baja Bruiser, Heavy Chevy & P-917 Flying off the card. The Card itself was 7" x 4.5"
