Geoff Ward (born April 8, 1962 in Waterloo, Ontario) is an ice hockey coach who is currently an assistant coach of the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League. He is in his third season in the Bruins organization, as he was named to Claude Julien’s staff on August 1, 2007. He came to Boston with 12 years of coaching experience at the OHL and AHL levels in addition to two head coaching stints in Germany. Ward began his coaching career in the OHL, guiding both the Kitchener Rangers and Guelph Storm from 1994-1999. He then joined the professional ranks with the Arkansas RiverBlades (ECHL) and Bad Nauheim EC (Germany) from 1999-2001. He began a five-year affiliation with the Edmonton Oilers organization in 2001 when he was named an assistant coach with the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs under head coach Claude Julien. When Julien earned the Montreal Canadiens’ head coaching position in January, 2003, Ward took over Hamilton’s coaching reins and led that team to the 2003 Calder Cup Finals. He shared the AHL’s Coach of the Year honors with Julien in 2002-03. Ward spent three seasons coaching the Oilers’ top AHL affiliates from 2002-2005 with an 83-80-24-8 record as an AHL head coach. He also served as Edmonton’s Development Coach in the 2005-06 season.
