It is also considered one of the wealthiest counties in the United States. Its county seat is the city of Pontiac, and is considered part of Metro Detroit. Oakland County borders Macomb County, which lies to the east, Wayne County to the south, Washtenaw County to the southeast, Livingston County to the west, Genesee County to the northwest and Lapeer County to the northeast. The county has sixty-two municipalities, ranging from cities to townships.
