Sphinxian stag horn fern
rdfs:comment
Stag horn fern was a fern-like plant native to the planet Sphinx in the Manticore System. It resembled the Earth plant of the same name, but was found almost exclusively in highland areas, and grew a bit taller, reaching heights of up to two meters (6.5 feet). It was a seasonal plant, dying back in late fall and winter, but was far more cold-hardy than its Earth namesake. Preferring shady conditions, it was often found in association with picket wood. The treecats called it swaying frond. The Swaying Fronds Clan got its name from the plants' common occurence in their habitat. (SK3)
