He died on January 24, 1965. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 10, 1940 to July 27, 1945 and October 26, 1951 to April 7, 1955. His imperialist contempt for subject peoples was motivated by vicious racism. That can be seen in the following testimony he offered before the Peel Commission on Palestine: I do not agree that the dog in a manger has the final right to the manger even though he may have lain there for a very long time. I do not admit that right. I do not admit for instance, that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia. I do not admit that a wrong has been done to these people by the fact that a stronger race, a higher-grade race, a more worldly wise race to put it that way, has come in and taken their place. —Winston S. Churchill Before becoming this son of extreme wealth and privilege played at being a journalist and author. He won the Nobel Prize for literature on in 1953. When you are born to wealth and power you can write history glorifying your own role and then receive rewards for having done so. The lesson is "Pick your parents carefully." Although lauded by contemporary conservatives in the United States and Britain, Winston Churchill is responsible for war crimes that include the death by famine of at least 3.5 million Bengali British Indian subjects in the Great Bengal Famine in 1943 and the fire-bombing raids on German cities that killed 600,000 non-combatants. His planning to re-impose French colonial rule in Indochina after the Second World War condemned Vietnam and Laos to decades of war that claimed 2.5 million lives.
