thumb|left|190px|Cover of 034. Quincy Archer Hates You Ichigo and Rukia arrive at the location of an Obese Ghost to fight a Hollow, but the Hollow is gone. They try to question the ghost, but the ghost was frightened by the Hollow and had his eyes closed and therefore, did not see who defeated it. Unable to get any more answers from the ghost, Ichigo and Rukia Konsō him as they are watched by a figure hidden in the shadows. The scene then changes to Karakura High School where Keigo is just finishing an exam. He believes he hasn't done well, and Mizuiro comforts him by telling Keigo that he too has not done well. Ichigo also tries to cheer-up Keigo, prompting Keigo to invite Ichigo to wallow together as he assumed Ichigo has done just as badly as himself. Mizuiro stops him and shows him the mid-term rankings. Ichigo had come 18th in the class. Keigo is devastated and accuses Ichigo of being a nerd. Ichigo explains that because he is not part of any clubs, he has nothing to do at night, but to go home and study. He goes onto explain that because his orange hair he is constantly picked on and because of his temper he gets into fights. As such, the faculty assume he is a hoodlum, but if he has good grades the faculty doesn't bother him too much. Keigo reflects on how Ichigo used the colder, more impersonal term faculty when referring to the teachers and acknowledges that Ichigo is probably discriminated against a lot because of his looks. However, he returns to teasing Ichigo about being a nerd to lighten the mood. Mizuiro changes the subject by asking about Rukia. Ichigo tells him that he has been avoiding Rukia entirely at school, since the two of them were caught on camera at Don Kanonji's TV show because there has been rumors floating around about the nature of their relationship. In fact, Mizuiro was the one who started the rumor and Keigo knows that he is the source of the rumor. Meanwhile Rukia is trying to get in touch with Urahara, as she believe her soul pager is not working properly. However, she is unable to reach him. As she wonders who she is supposed to determine if it is broken or not, she gets an order. She drags away Ichigo and the two of them pass a black haired student with glasses. They come to where the Hollow is supposed to be but find nothing. Ichigo is annoyed and starts bickering with Rukia. They are approached by the black haired student with glasses, who introduces himself as Uryū Ishida, a Quincy who hates Shinigami. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 026. Paradise is Nowhere Kon narrates a bit about his life, starting with that morning, where Ichigo beat him against the side of the house to clean him. Rukia stops him, using the school's toilet brush to clean Kon instead, but Ichigo stops her and demands that she return it back to school. Upset by his treatment, Kon resolves to leave and find someone who'll treat him nicely. While walking around, he encounters Orihime, and thinks that if he pretends to be a lost doll, Orihime will pick him up. However, Orihime is in the middle of a soccer game with Tatsuki, and he ends up getting kicked instead and is carried away from the field. There, he spots three more of Ichigo's classmates, but can't recall their names because they don't have large breasts. Michiru says that the stuffed animal is cute, but Ryō calls Kon filthy and steps on him, prompting him to make a loud noise. The three of them stare at him, and Chizuru suggests that they sell him. Kon gets up and runs, but Ryō is the track and field team's star, so she chases after him. Kon runs past Chad, who decides to chase Kon too, because he likes cute things. Kon manages to evade both of them and make it back to the Kurosaki house, but not wanting to enter Ichigo's room, he passes out in Yuzu's room. Yuzu picks him up and says they should bathe together because Kon's so dirty. She then treats him to a warm bath and blow dry, which Kon is very happy about, until she dresses him up in baby's clothes and glues a flower to his ear. He flees her room, crying for Ichigo, and he apologizes for running away. He decides that Ichigo and Rukia really do love him. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 031. HEROES CAN SAVE YOU Don Kanonji and Ichigo evade the Hollow's attacks, with Ichigo dragging Don into the hospital in order to avoid him. Karin and Orihime, meanwhile, worry about Ichigo's well-being. Inside the hospital, Don makes Ichigo stop running, saying that he can't retreat because he is a hero. He explains that the majority of his viewers are young children, and that by watching his actions, they come to understand what courage is. Ichigo seems to understand, but still prevents Don from exiting the building. Ichigo tells Don that if he fights where all his fans are watching, some of them may get hurt, and it's his duty to protect them. As Ichigo finishes his speech, the Hollow bursts through the floor beneath them. Ichigo prepares to use his Zanpakutō, but with the confined space of the hallways, his katana is too long for him to use it. The Hollow takes advantage of Ichigo's distraction and spits out a sort of thick fluid in order to capture Ichigo. The Hollow attempts to attack, but Don uses his cane to block the attack and save Ichigo. He explains that Ichigo's interest in protecting people has inspired him. Thus, he gives Ichigo the nickname "Battle Buddy," and says he wants to die protecting Ichigo. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 030. Second Contact[it was outside the scope of our understanding] The TV announcers are just as perplexed by the sudden loud explosion as Ichigo, especially since it came right after Don Kanonji was blown back by an "unseen force" . As the dust and smoke clears, Don declares that the mission is complete, which the crowd goes wild. Ichigo wonders if Don really took care of the spirit, while Rukia thinks to herself that when a spirit becomes a Hollow, he'll dissipate and recompose somewhere else. Rukia adds that if the Plus had been a wandering spirit, the place where he'll recompose as a Hollow is random. However, if he had his heart attached to something. Meanwhile, the crowd cheers while Ichigo asks Don if he really sent the Plus into heaven, which Don confirms. Don then promises to exorcise Ichigo later, too. Rukia then screams for Ichigo to look up, and Don and Ichigo watch the once-Plus recompose his body into that of a Hollow. Don wonders what it is, and when Ichigo asks him why he doesn't know, Don says it's because "monster extermination is outside [his] field." Don decides that it is the former spirit's evil boss, but Ichigo decides not to explain. The Hollow then calls out that he's in pain, and that he intends to devour their souls. Ichigo tries to tell Don to run away, but Don pushes him to the ground and says he'll take care of it. The Hollow attacks Don, and Ichigo blocks it, pushing the Hollow back. Don asks Ichigo why he didn't run away, but Ichigo says he could ask the same. Don states that he can't run, but before Ichigo asks what he means by that, the Hollow returns, ready to attack again. Karin, meanwhile, is able to see Ichigo fighting, and Tatsuki, Chad and Orihime also seem to be able to see something. Urahara mumbles to himself about what should be done. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 027. Spirits Ain't Always WITH USIchigo reads his horoscope and claims he doesn't believe that stuff, even though he has been having abysmal luck this week, per his horoscope prediction. He says he refuses to believe psychics and the like, even though his family has gone nuts over a TV psychic. Yuzu and Isshin are watching Don Kanonji on TV. Karin, like Ichigo, is not interested and comments that the reason Yuzu and Isshin are probably interested is because they can't see ghosts like Ichigo and Karin can. As Ichigo contemplates Karin's words, it suddenly dawns on him that Karin, who can see Hollows, can probably see Shinigami as well. Before he can act on his insight, Yuzu interrupts him and informs him that Don Kanonji is coming to Karakura Town next week for a special live filming. At school, Ichigo is greeted by Orihime doing the "bohaha" greeting from Don Kanonji's show. As she tries to get Ichigo to do it with her, she is interrupted by Tatsuki who drags her away. Ichigo comments on how popular Don Kanonji's show is, but also how people above a certain age probably don't watch shows like this, thus concluding most of young people are watching the show. As an indication of this, Ichigo finds Mizuiro, Keigo and Chad doing the "bohaha" greeting. Ichigo is invited to come with the others to Don Kanonji's show, but he refuses. However, on the day of the show, Ichigo comes along with his family. Orihime apologizes to Ichigo for trying to get him to do the "bohaha" greeting, explaining that Tatsuki told her that he hated shows like that. Ichigo tells her not to worry about it. She then asks him why he came along since he doesn't like the show. Ichigo replies that he couldn't let his family come alone. Orihime tells him he is very thoughtful, but Ichigo says it's nothing and the two drop the subject. Ichigo then comments on how he can't believe so many people have come to the show and wonders if they don't have lives. He is then met by Rukia, who does the "bohaha" greeting, but quickly reveals that she has no idea what's going on. Ichigo explains and Rukia says she gets it, but Ichigo doesn't think she does. Ichigo then asks her if the old hospital really is haunted. Rukia says that it might be a Jibakurei, an earth bound ghost who blends into the environment, and thus Soul Society's sensors can't pick them up. As the camera crew start to set up, Ichigo and Rukia hear the wail as Rukia explains that someone has invaded the territory of the Jibakurei. The last panel of the chapter shows Ichigo's horoscope that says he'll make a new friend and a new world will open for him. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 028. Symptom of Synesthesia The others have abandoned Keigo and Mizuiro, prompting the latter to lose interest in doing the "bohahahaha" pose. However, when two attractive ladies notice them, Mizuiro uses his youthful looks to get their attention. Keigo then notices that Chad's still around, and Chad asks if he can hear a strange voice too, but Keigo tells him it must just be his imagination. Elsewhere in the crowd, Rukia tells Ichigo that the voice is that of an earth-bound Plus who is starting to turn into a Hollow, but his hole is only partially open and he doesn't have a mask yet. They spot the Plus, and Rukia says his heart has been caught by the hospital. Karin also notices the voice, but dismisses her father's questions on what's wrong. She thinks to herself that his screaming sounds awful, and she wonders if Don Kanonji can actually do anything about it. Tatsuki and Orihime also hear the voice. Rukia explains to Ichigo that a hole means that the Hollow has lost his heart and his pure instinct, with the mask intending to protect those instincts. When one dies, his Chain of Fate breaks, and if he has no regrets, he just waits around for a Shinigami's guidance to the Soul Society. However, if he has a regret, his Chain of Fate will bind the Soul to the object of his regrets. If the object is a place, he'll become an earth-bound spirit and if it's a person, he'll become an obsessed spirit. The Plus's screaming makes it clear that the reason he is bound to the hospital is because of an old grudge against his father and younger brother, who inherited the hospital from their father instead of him. The show, "Ghost Bust," then starts and Don Kanonji arrives on the scene. Rukia is impressed, and Ichigo brings her back to the task at hand - what to do with the Plus. However, she tells him that he can't become a Hollow in an hour, and with so many people around, someone could get hurt if he struggled when they give him a soul burial. Rukia adds that unless someone aggravates him intentionally and opens the hole in his chest, it'll be at least half a year before he becomes a Hollow. Don Kanonji then uses his cane to stab the Plus in his hole. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 032. Hero is Always With Me? Don Kanonji holds the Hollow off while he uses a "Kanon Ball" to free Ichigo's Zanpakutō. Ichigo praises him, and prepares to charge the Hollow, while telling Don to leave the rest to him. Don dives out of the way and calls out tips to Ichigo from where he lays on the floor. Ichigo is able to strike the Hollow, but with his hands still stuck together, he isn't able to fight to the best of his abilities. The Hollow then lifts and thrusts both him and Ichigo out of the window. Don is visible in the hole in the wall, and the TV crews notice. For dramatic effect, he yells that the evil spirit escaped to the roof, and rushes to try to get up there before the cameras do. On the roof, Ichigo is glad to be away from Don so he can fight to the best of his abilities without having to worry about protecting another individual. However, just as he finishes his speech, Don arrives on the roof. The Hollow attacks again, and after a few more attacks, Ichigo finishes him off. The Hollow's body dissolves, and the original Plus is left in the remains. Don is surprised, and Ichigo told him that his own actions had made the spirit into a Hollow. Don is stunned, thinking that he had been saving them. He begins crying, and Ichigo tells him to "put away those tears, hero. Everyone is waving." He answers their cheers by doing his standard "bohahaha" pose. Don then decides that Ichigo is his "number-one pupil" and that Ichigo will help Don on missions, much to Ichigo's apparent dismay. Ichigo then thinks that this is why he doesn't believe in psychics. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 033. ROCKIN' FUTURE 7 After Ichigo's actions at the filming of Don Kanonji's show were shown on national TV, Ichigo, Rukia, Chad, Mizuiro, Keigo, Orihime and Tatsuki are called into the school principal's office, where they are interrogated by one of the teachers, Kagine, about the incident, which Kagine says has brought shame upon the school. Ichigo initially plays dumb about the incident, pretending that it was simply somebody that closely resembled him, but Kagine sees through this. Tatsuki interrupts Kagine, explaining that they had not accompanied Ichigo that evening, but rather they were attending the filming of the TV show of their own accord and had met up with Rukia, who had been invited by the guys. Keigo denies this, but Tatsuki retorts that he is prone to delusions and as such should not be trusted. As Tatsuki and Inoue leave the office, Keigo tries to follow them out, but is told that he is at fault for failing to stop Ichigo. Rukia says that she was the closest to Ichigo at the time, and that she had raised her voice in a bid to stop him, but Ichigo had ignored her. As she starts crying, Kagine tries to calm her. The remaining students take the chance to flee through the window. When Kagine turns around to call them back, Rukia makes her escape. Kagine then asks Ichigo's teacher, Misato Ochi, why she didn't prevent their escape. Misato simply didn't think the matter merited such a scolding. Kagine turns to the principal for support, but he asks if he can have a copy to show his grandchild that a student of his had been on TV, much to Kagine's annoyance. Outside, Keigo thanks Rukia, saying that her acting saved them. Tatsuki reveals that had he caught her, she would have shown off her singing voice. Keigo says that the announcer would just talk over her and nobody would be able to hear her. Ichigo takes note of this and is thankful that the announcer did just that with him, as he had called Rukia by her first name, which would have led to rumors about the pair if it became widely known. Back at the Kurosaki Clinic, Don Kanonji pays a visit to his Ichigo, calling him his new star pupil and invites him for a drive. Ichigo promptly closes and locks the door. Kanonji reveals that he wanted to cheer Ichigo up by visiting him incognito , and that Rukia had told him where his house was when he gave her loads of food. Yuzu, wondering what the commotion was, comes downstairs to find her idol Kanonji at the door, and lets him in. At that moment, Rukia receives word that a Hollow has appeared nearby, and Ichigo takes advantage of it to leave Kanonji. However, Karin sees Ichigo leaving wearing his Shinigami uniform. As they race towards the location of the reported Hollow, they pass a fellow student of the Karakura High School, who turns and watches Ichigo running past him. thumb|left|190px|Cover of 029. Stop that stupid!! Don Kanonji stabs the Demi-Hollow in his partially-open Hollow hole, causing it to open further. Rukia and Ichigo are alarmed by this, as such an action can only speed up the process of making the spirit into a Hollow. Don Kanonji then proceeds to try to remove the Chain of Fate from the spirit, causing him to scream in agony. Ichigo, realizing the peril of the situation, jumps over the rope barricade that separates the hospital from the audience and yells at Don to stop. However, before he can get very far, Ichigo is attacked by several security guards. When Rukia prepares her glove to change Ichigo into a Shinigami, the two of the guards turn their attention on her and tackle her to the ground. Neither of them are able to wrestle away, and Chad decides to go help Ichigo. The spirit continues to scream in pain, while his wails bothering the spiritually-aware. Ichigo continues to try to get away, and Urahara arrives, using his cane to turn Ichigo into a Shinigami. Ichigo begins to question it, but Urahara reminds him to focus his attention on the issue at hand - the spirit Don is attacking. Rukia asks why Urahara arrived, and he begins to explain that he came because Ururu and Jinta wanted to. However, his conversation with her attracts the attention of the security guards. In order to escape, he uses one of his tools from the Soul Society to knock them out. Then, with Tessai carrying Ichigo's body, he, Tessai, and Rukia flee the scene. By now, Ichigo has managed to approach Don Kanonji, and he tackles him, telling him to stop. The TV crew, on the other hand, think Don was blown back by an unseen force. Don reveals that he can see Ichigo, but before they can talk much further, the Plus appears to implode, with his Chain of Fate breaking into several pieces. When the smoke clears, the spirit is gone.
