The Giants (TV story)
rdfs:comment
It also introduced the Doctor as having escaped from his galaxy in the year 5733 to start a new and better life in the past. It was eventually rejected as it lacked characterisation and would require too many special effects. It was replaced by An Unearthly Child. Nevertheless, the first episode of The Giants was largely retained as the so-called "pilot episode", which itself was reworked into the episode "An Unearthly Child".

It is often believed that The Giants was eventually made under the name of Planet of Giants. However, the two stories are only tangentially related, and, appropriately, Webber was not credited as having inspired Planet of Giants. (REF: The First Doctor Handbook)
