He died at the age of 111 years, 20 days and was thought to be the oldest living American-born man. He may have been the second-oldest man in the United States, behind Dr. Alexander Imich. In February 2014, he went missing for nine hours after getting on a bus and was later discovered by employees of a Duane Reade store he had walked into.
