Viktor Faust was appointed to the New Republic Senate in an emergency session of the Coruscanti Council following the assassination of his predecessor in early 15_ABY. His chief body guard was a near human female named Phair Kreiss. In truth, he was the Imperial Warlord Vassily Korolov in disguise. Viktor Imperial Intelligence assets to foment a campaign of terror on the planet while at the same time using his growing influence in the senate to pass legislation vastly increasing the size of Coruscant's defensive force, the Coruscant Guard and fill their numbers with hundreds of thousands of Stormtroopers. The coup de grace of this effort involved setting off dozens of explosives in the Republic Senate during a meeting of the full assembly. Easily over 1/3rd of the Senators were killed in the blasts while another unknown percentage were killed when the Coruscant Guard turned on senators, gunning many down before they ever knew what was happening. The Coruscanti Council had been in attendance at the session and were all killed when a bomb detonated in their repulsor platform. Having the entirety of the executive office wiped out, Viktor Faust declared himself Governor of the Ecumenopolis shortly before revealing his true identity to the Galaxy. His attack on the senate was the signal for the Stormtroopers embedded in the Coruscant Guard units to launch a coordinated attack intent on decapitating the New Republic's military defenses. Many garrisons fell quickly, dozens would be the sight of days of heavy fighting inflicting heavy casualties on both sides and there were even a few Republic Military garrisons that managed to hold out till the bitter end.
