Fatigue, also known as "tiredness", was a game mechanic that had the effect of reducing xp gained from grinding after the player had spent a certain number of hours in the game in one day. It was used as a tool to encourage players to engage in RvR combat rather than grind, and also because the developers felt they had a social responsibility to dissuade players from spending too much time in the game. Fatigue was corrupting Dilligence using cursed rainfall from the cloud, which made men grow apathetic not only towards right and wrong but also against life itself - this inbalance could not be tolerated by The Master (originally God in the Japanese title, changed in the English translation into an archangel). Thus the Master came down and fought Fatigue as part of his quest to rid the world of thirteen powerful evils that were unleashed by his eternal nemesis, Tanzra (who was originally Satan but was again changed for an English audience). Everybody gets tired once in a while, so it's easy to overlook -- but experiencing fatigue regularly affects your mood, and it can hurt your work and your social life. Fatigue may be caused for a variety of reasons including lack of sleep, depression, infections, cancers, problems associated with low metabolism, anemia, and diabetes. Some of the most common symptoms of fatigue are breathlessness, changes in weight, sweating at night, and excessive thirst. To avoid fatigue, it's essential to lead a balanced life with adequate sleep, exercise, and good diet. If fatigue continues for more than two to three weeks, it's always advisable to seek immediate medical assistance to ascertain the exact reasons and get proper treatment. This spell sounds similar to Order's Slow, but it is inferior for one reason; Slow will affect any creature not immune to magic altogether, while fatigue is a mind spell, and only works on creatures that can become fatigued. Elementals, constructs, and the ignore one more weapon in the Necromancers' arsenal. Water elementals can cast this spell in combat. Fatigue is a statistic that affects your stamina and mana usage. Many wearable items and some sustained abilities increase the fatigue experienced by a character; typically heavier armors have higher fatigue values than lighter ones. Any talents or spells that are cast by a character have their costs increased by the fatigue percentage. For example, if Morrigan is wearing only robes and has 0.0% fatigue, her Winter's Grasp spell will cost 20 mana to activate. However, if Morrigan equips some leather armor to the point where she has 10.0% fatigue, the same spell will cost 22 mana to activate. Fatigue is a condition that affects any character travelling water that is too deep, such as the oceans surrounding the continents. Close to land, the ocean floor is generally not very far below sea level, and it can usually be seen from the surface; at greater distances from the shore, the floor recedes deeper and deeper. When the depth of the water reaches a certain point, swimming in the region causes a Fatigue bar to appear, which displaying a player's weariness. It behaves similar to the Breath bar; the bar will deplete over time (the Fatigue bar depletes much faster than the Breath bar, it matches the rate at which the Breath bar originally depleted), and will deal damage to the player when it reaches zero. The Fatigue bar and Fatigue damage occurs regardless of the player's depth. Although some players were initially optimistic about the fatigue system's benefits, it became hugely unpopular with players. Though there were a number of ways to combat it: * Players would often "relog for war": after having a grinding session and going to war, they would relog so the timer wouldn't be counting during the time spent warring. * The XP reduction affected the base and challenge (CHG) XP gained from mobs, but not the group (GRP) bonus. Since, when levelling in large parties, the group bonus is the main source of XP, players could still level in large groups when fatigued and not lose too much XP. * Players that had a high level character and another under 20 could spend the first part of the day levelling the high level character, and then after it was fatigued, level the character under 20. * Players that had characters on different accounts (not officially allowed), could spend time levelling one character until that accound was fatigued, and then level the character on the other account. * Theoretically, it would be possible to avoid fatigue by relogging in to the game after every killing of 4 mobs, though this wouldn't be practical.
