An officer in the RNVR Fleet Air Arm, he served on various aitrcraft carriers and in Crete, North Africa and in convoy escort work. He reached the rank of commander in 1943 and was awarded the DSO in 1942 and DSC in 1943.

Commander Rupert Arnold Brabner (29 October 1911 - 27 March 1945) was a banker and Conservative Party politician, who served as an airman in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Born in Loughton, Essex, he was the son of William Wilberforce Brabner and Lucy Maggie nee Barbyman. His father served in the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War. Following education at Cambridge, Brabner joined the banking company of Singer & Friedlander Ltd, becoming a director. In 1937 he was elected to the London County Council as a Municipal Reform Party councillor representing Lewisham West, holding the seat until he resigned in January 1945. In July 1939 he was elected to the House of Commons when there was a by-election for the Kent constituency of Hythe. A member of the Conservative party, he became a government for the wartime coalition government. He was appointed to the junior ministerial post of Under-Secretary of State for Air in 1944. An officer in the RNVR Fleet Air Arm, he served on various aitrcraft carriers and in Crete, North Africa and in convoy escort work. He reached the rank of commander in 1943 and was awarded the DSO in 1942 and DSC in 1943. The aeroplane in which he was travelling was lost off the Azores in March 1945 and he was presumed dead.
