They are somewhat decent weapons, though being two-handed they lose out on the defensive benefits of wielding a weapon with a shield. In fact, large hammers of the same metals are more powerful and can be wielded with a shield. Being a polearm, however, over time they can still grant good DV bonuses none the less. Halberds and two-handed swords — which are also two-handed — are still far superior in terms of damage.
