David Mattingly

Born in Fort Collins, Colorado he attended the Colorado Institute of Art and the Colorado State University and later the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. After his move he worked for the Walt Disney Company and became the head of the matte department. During this time he contributed to several Disney films including the science fiction film The Black Hole (1979, along with TOS actor Stephen McEveety, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier special effects foreman Mike Edmonson, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture special effects artist Barry Seybert), the mystery film The Watcher in the Woods (1980), the science fiction film TRON (1982), the comic adaptation Dick Tracy (1990), and more recently the science fiction thriller I, Robot (2004). David Mattingly was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. David began drawing and painting as a small child, influenced by comic books, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and a wide array of artists from Jim Steranko, to N.C. Wyeth, to Jackson Pollock. After high school, he attended the Colorado Institute of Art , Colorado State University and later transferred to Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. David has produced over 2000 covers for most major publishers of science fiction and fantasy, including Baen, Bantam, DAW, Del Rey, Dell, Marvel, Omni, Playboy, Signet, and Tor.
