The Dragon sword (also commonly referred to as dragon shortsword to differentiate it from the similarly named dragon longsword) is a powerful sword that requires 60 Attack to wield. To obtain it, you must complete the Monkey Business miniquest, although wielding has no quest requirement. Unlike most swords, the dragon sword is very popular due to its balance of power, accuracy, and speed for a stabbing weapon. Its special attack has also given it a solid place in PvP, where it can deal heavy damage quickly. The Dragon sword's special attack, Slaughter, requires 35% of the special attack bar to use. It attacks instantly, akin to the special attack of the granite maul. However, unlike the maul's attack, this attack deals 20% extra damage and is 30% more accurate if the opponent is using any sort of overhead prayers. The attack also has a 33% chance of disabling all prayers from being used for 8 ticks, or 4.8 seconds, including Protect Item. As a drawback, however, the player will have to wait 5 ticks, or 3 seconds, to use the special attack again. Regardless, the special attack has given the dragon sword a very significant popularity in PvP situations, where it is commonly used to deal the final blow to opponents and obtain expensive items that would have otherwise been protected by prayers if the opponent is skulled, backed up by its high damage.
