Saint Petersburg Compromise (New Union)
rdfs:comment
The Saint Petersburg Compromise (Russian: Санкт-Петербургский компромисс, Sankt-Pyetyerburgskiy kompromiss) was a series of agreements enacted by the Russian Federation. The compromise allowed for seven autonomous republics within Russia — Buryatia, Kalmykia, Komia, Mari El, Mordovia, Udmurtia, and Yakutia — to apply to become full republics, as well as the reorganization of several regions within the republic. The compromise came about due to a variety of regions, among them including the Parade of Sovereignties which has already resulted in the formation of new republics within the Soviet Union (many coming from within Russian territory).

Several weeks after being ratified by Russia, the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union allowed for the seven autonomous republics within Russia to become full republics. The compromise also resulted in a Union-wide compromise two years later.
