In recent years, Weatherly has gained international recognition and success for his current role as Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo on the television series, NCIS (series), a spin-off of the American military series, JAG (series). In addition to being an actor, Weatherly is also a director, having made his directorial debut with the NCIS Season Eight episode, One Last Score (episode) and he also directed the Season Ten episode, Seek (episode). Weatherly was also previously engaged to Jessica Alba who starred alongside him in Dark Angel although they later broke up. As well as being a series regular, Weatherly has also contributed a song towards the NCIS soundtrack, his debut song being "Bitter and Blue". Due to the sheer success of the song, Weatherly later wrote and recorded more songs including "Pretty Baby", "All Fall Apart", "Lovlihead", and "Suffer for Me". Weatherly also shares his birthday with fellow NCIS co-star Rocky Carroll who plays NCIS Director Leon Vance. In addition to appearing in JAG and NCIS: New Orleans, Weatherly also appeared in an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, guest-starring in the Season 7 episode, "Blame it on Rio". On January 5, 2016, Weatherly announced that he was leaving NCIS after thirteen seasons. He is the first long-running cast member associated with NCIS to be leaving the show, Weatherly having been involved with the show since it first aired as two backdoor pilot episodes which were part of JAG Season 8. Weatherly departed NCIS in May 2016, his final appearance as a regular cast member occurring in the NCIS Season 13 finale episode, "Family First". Michael Weatherly portrayed Brendan Rowe in the season 1 episode "When Bad Warlocks Go Good". Michael was born in New York City on 8th July 1968. Raised in Fairfield, CT, he left college to pursue a career in acting. He also had a great passion for music, and played in a band while pursuing his acting career. This led to numerous guest spots on television and brought him to Los Angeles. After moving to Los Angeles, he landed a series regular role in the FOX television series "Significant Others." Michael then met director Whit Stillman, who cast him in the film The Last Days of Disco (1998) opposite Chloe Sevigny. Michael also starred as Christina Applegate's ex-husband in the television series "Jesse," and in the films The Specials (2000) opposite Rob Lowe, Venus and Mars (2001) opposite Lynn Redgrave and Gun Shy (2000) opposite Liam Neeson and Sandra Bullock. In 1995 he married actress Amelia Heinle who he appeared with in both "The City" and "Loving". Tragically, their marriage did not last long, and they divorced in 1997, despite the birth of their son, August in 1996. Michael currently resides in Los Angeles.
