The United States presidential election of 2028 was the 61st quadrennial American presidential election. Incumbent president Cory Booker was term-limited per the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, so voters selected a new president. That president was Texas Senator Julian Castro, who defeated South Dakota Senator and former Senate Majority Leader John Thune. Castro emerged from a field that was left wide open after Vice President Sherrod Brown, who was expected to seek the Democratic nomination, declined to run because of his age. Thune, on the other hand, was considered the frontrunner before the primaries even began, and thus experienced little to no serious competition for the nomination.
