The Ancient universe refers to the original continuity of the Might and Magic series. Up until the 1997 release of Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Price of Loyalty, all official media in the series overtly took place in this canonical setting. The original universe was introduced in Might and Magic: Secret of the Inner Sanctum. The most recent official entry in the canon was Heroes of Might and Magic IV: Winds of War. The setting has since been withdrawn by Ubisoft, the holders of the brand, in favour of the Ubisoft continuity, and is unlikely to be utilised in their future projects. However, some unreleased projects are planned to continue incorporating its setting, such as Heroes of Might and Magic Online.
