The Xyon News Agency was founded in 1927 by Brandon Clarke, a Mikaean politician who realized the importance of a national news corporation for Xyon. He received the backing of the federal government of Xyon, which sponsored the formation of XNA as a successor to the Mikaean Broadcasting Network, which primarily covered events in the capital city of Blackstone and the largest city in Xyon, Oxida Nova. XNA grew to dominate the flow of media content in Xyon within a few years, and was officially placed under the overwatch of the government of Xyon. XNA is owned and operated by the Directorate of Truth, Xyon's department of information and propaganda, leading to all employees of XNA being considered as state workers. The operating income for the Xyon News Agency is drawn from the federal government, with its budget set and passed by the Supreme Federal Congress, and signed off by the Supreme Director of Xyon for that year. XNA broadcasts is more than 40 different languages, and has a host of online and mobile services for those following XNA broadcasts.
