Splinter Cocoon
rdfs:comment
Splinter Cocoons are protective houses for the Splinter species in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the GameCube. They are only found at the Industrial Site and once the Splinters emerge from the cocoons the cocoons will remain destroyed for the rest of the game, making them a one-time-only scan. An Alpha Splinter nests within a far larger cocoon than its brethren. Curiously, all of the Splinter Cocoons inside the Temple Sanctuary were surrounded by an energy field that impeded Samus from scanning them correctly. This field may have been caused by interdimensional disturbances from which the Ing would emerge and possess the creatures.

Splinters will enter their protective cocoons when tired or sated. The cocoon is durable, but can be destroyed by weapons fire. Destroying a cocoon will kill the Splinter inside; when this occurs, the dying Splinter will emit a shriek that will alert all nearby Splinters in hibernation. This will drive them into battle frenzy as a defense mechanism.

Protective structure for sleeping Splinters. Destroying this structure will eliminate the Splinter inside, but it will also alert other Splinters nearby. Morphology: Splinter Cocoon
n18:abstract
An Alpha Splinter nests within a far larger cocoon than its brethren. Curiously, all of the Splinter Cocoons inside the Temple Sanctuary were surrounded by an energy field that impeded Samus from scanning them correctly. This field may have been caused by interdimensional disturbances from which the Ing would emerge and possess the creatures. Curiously, the common Splinters inside the Great Temple of the Luminoth did not violently burst out of their cocoons, which is the case with all other Splinters found in Temple Grounds. Instead, through the use of their webbing extruded from their rears, they gently lower themselves from the ceiling onto the ground. Only the Alpha Splinter exits its cocoon in the common manner.
