n16:abstract
This platinum ring is studded with 20 miniscule diamonds. It clasps onto the finger, fitting magically to any humanoid or similarly shaped finger. Upon donning, the wearer becomes instantly aware of what the ring does and how to operate it. All operation is by telepathic command (a free action). The user can send forth any number of the small diamond orbs studding the ring to record everything around it in a 120-foot radius as long as it stays within one mile of the user and on the same plane. Diamonds orbs fly at a speed of 30 feet with perfect maneuverability. They perceive their surroundings as though affected by a true seeing spell. They record visual, auditory, olfactory, and thermal information in their sphere of perception. They can be commanded at any distance to begin recording, stop recording, begin streaming information to the user, stop streaming information to the user, move, or return. Orbs can teleport as the greater teleport spell cast by a 20th level caster at will, but it can only affect itself. The user does not gain any ability to teleport nor does anything the orb is in contact with teleport. Orbs will not move or teleport outside of the mile radius of the user that they are limited to. If the user moves, the orbs will move to stay within the radius without being commanded to do so, but only if they come to the edge of the radius. For the purposes of any spells that move or teleport the wearer of the ring, the orbs are considered to be in the wearer's possession at all times. If the user teleports, all the orbs immediately return to the ring and are present in the ring on the wearer when he arrives at his destination. Orbs can record up to 20 hours of information about their surroundings, which are played back at the ring wearer's mental command, either in the wearer's mind or projected in a hemisphere on a flat, horizontal plane above the ring (5 feet = .1 inch). The wearer of the ring is aware of the location of each orb relative to himself at all times. Prerequisites: CL 20th; Craft Wondrous Item; discern location, greater prying eyes, mage's lucubration, programmed image, telepathic bond, teleport object; 160,000 gp + 12,800 XP.
