"Rites of Passage" is the sixteenth episode of Miami Vice's first season. The episode premiered on February 8, 1985, repeated on September 6, 1985 and introduced Pam Grier as NYPD Detective (and Tubbs' past love) Valerie Gordon. Rites of Passage is an adventure seed contained in the Star Wars Gamemaster Screen. Invited to participate in a Kitonak ceremony by a friend, a group of spacers have to deal with slavers. Possible alternate storylines that could be adapted by a gamemaster were also included. It was written by Bill Olmesdahl. Speak to Derogar in Derogar's Post. The Rites of Passage is a ceremony performed by the final contestants before the Final Immunity Challenge. It occurs while the final two, three, or four contestants (depending on the season) travel to their Final Immunity Challenge. The contestants walk past the torches of their eliminated competitors, in the order of their elimination, and recite a few words about that player. They then collect items, or the torches of the contestants as they go. By the end of their journey, they burn the items as a way to pay respect.

Jeff Probst states the ceremony "meant more in earlier seasons and doesn't have any value in recent seasons", justifying its absence and extinction.
