The Imperial Unggoy Navy (IUN) is the space-based branch of the Unggoy Star Empire's armed forces. As of December 2571, it is considered to be the second-largest navy in the explored galaxy, after the UNSC Navy. The current Cold War between the USE and UNSC has seen dramatic surges in the IUN's budget and currently it maintains the largest arsenal ship fleet in the galaxy, with 500 vessels, and the second-largest carrier fleet, with 750 carriers. It currently operates 390 million regular personnel, 5,520 ships, and two million starfighters. The IUN was formed in 2553 after Balaho's break from the rapidly-disintegrating Covenant Empire. It spearheaded the Unggoy's colonisation effort, only to be rapidly cut down to a scant few non-Slipspace capable ships later in the year by the Sangheili Armed Forces, who were not eager to see a new galactic power emerge. However, the Empire was helped back on to the galactic scene by the UNSC, which recognised the need for allies against the New Covenant, and so the IUN has adopted many of the UNSC Navy's traditions. The Navy earned a name for itself due to its professionalism and aggressiveness during the Second Great War, but has since become a rival force to the UNSC and SAF navies. The current Imperial Unggoy Navy maintains a sizable galactic presence, deploying all over explored space. It is a black-space navy with the ability to project force into the orbital regions of any system, engage in forward areas during peacetime, and rapidly respond to regional crises, making it an active player in Unggoy foreign and defence policy. The Navy is administratively managed by the Fleet Office, which is part of the Imperial Defence Ministry, which is headed by the Defence Master. The highest ranking Naval officer is the Chief of Naval Operations.
