Hunter McKay is a fictional character in the TVNZ soap opera Shortland Street. He is portrayed by Lee Donoghue. In April 2007 Scarlett Valentine rammed her father's car straight into Hunter. He escaped with minor injuries, but the incident did give him a wakeup call about his arrogant behaviour. Scarlett left the country but since then Hunter's antics have calmed down. He is still hell bent on a modelling career despite his parents' reluctance, however a recent photo shoot may have dampen this ambition when he lied about his age. Hunter began a relationship with Tess Adamson who worked with his father, Callum. Tess's son Nate had a crush on Hunter and to get close to him he began dating Hunter's sister Sophie. The affair was discovered by Nate who caught his mother kissing Hunter, later revealed the affair to Callum. The affair caused both Hunter and Sophie to be bullied and teased at school. Hunter moved in with Tess for a time before his shock marriage proposal. Hunter was left in tears when Tess left the area with her son. Hunter is now over Tess and the family have put it behind them. Despite both Callum and Justine continually telling him that he shouldn't Hunter continued to pursue a career in modeling. However his parents were still skeptical, until he was selected for a major shoot with world famous model Anya Sadvenko. Things were going well until Anya collapsed from a heroin overdose. After seeing the shoot photographers unsympathetic attitude to her he saw how materialistic and image concerned the industry was and to his parents delight decided to focus on another career path.
