Zunächst wurden nur die Startbahnen verwandt, so bestand der Kurs praktisch nur aus langen Geraden und engen Haarnadelkurven. Mit Start der Formel 1 in Jahre 1950 wurden die Rennen auf die Verbindungsstraßen, die die Start- und Landebahnen umgeben, verlegt. Für die nächsten 35 Jahre wurde dieses Streckenlayout nahezu beibehalten. 1975 wurde eine weitere Schikane eingefügt, um die Geschwindigkeit vor der Woodcote-Kurve zu reduzieren. 1987 kam eine Kuppe vor der Bridge-Kurve hinzu. Zwischen den Formel-1-Grand Prix 1990 und 1991 wurde die Strecke komplett neu gestaltet. Die Landebahnen befinden sich auch heute noch im Infield der Rennstrecke und werden zum Teil noch benutzt.
