Rebecca Laurel Gallaudet was a Starfleet line officer, and Starfleet Academy instructor, active in the 23rd and 24th centuries. She was born in 2238 to Mark Gallaudet and Mary (née Adamley) Gallaudet. She had an older sister, Maureen. When she was five years old, her father died in an accident. While neither of her parents were in Starfleet, her paternal grandmother Kristen Gordon had made a career in the service. With her grandmother's influence, Gallaudet entered Starfleet Academy as part of the class of 2260. Graduating with honors, she was assigned as navigator and junior science officer on the USS Constellation, commanded by Matthew Decker. After three years, she returned to the Academy to study at its College of Sciences. In 2264, she and Andreas Kitabatu al-'Qalb had an affair (his first) that ended badly. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: Andreas Kitabatu al-'Qalb Personnel File) The next year, she was assigned as assistant chief navigator, with the rank of lieutenant, on the hospital ship USS Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. During Gallaudet's next ten years on that vessel, she was promoted to lieutenant commander and chief navigator. Beginning in 2275, Gallaudet taught stellar navigation at the Academy for nearly six years, often administering the Kobayashi Maru exam to command cadets. At some point, she decided to pursue command studies herself. Gallaudet graduated from Command Staff College in 2283 and was given command of a small science scout, USS Ride, for two three-year missions. Afterwards, she returned to the Academy and taught courses in Navigation, Command Mechanics, and a seminar called "First Contact Protocols and Problems", for which she had written the eponymous text. Among the students who took her seminar, at different times, were John Harriman, Larisa el-Ibrahim, Carolyn Adiwoso, Demora Sulu, and Gordon Goldberg. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Blindspot") At some unspecified point, Gallaudet returned to command of a starship and made first contact with members of the Tzenkethi race. In 2311, Captain Gallaudet attended many memorial services for her friends, colleagues and former students who had died during the Tomed Incident. Gallaudet, age 116, was among the casualties at Shadowstar Station when it was attacked during the Federation-Tholian War. ("Blindspot")
