John William Wesley (1940-) is an evangelical minister with a degree in the Southern Baptist denomination. Wesley along with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson is condiderd to be a leader in the conservative evangelical movement. In 2001, Wesley launched a bid for the 2002 Republican nomination for President of the United States. Although Wesley had a strong third place in the Ames Straw Poll, he withdrew in December due to lack of funds and support in the polls. He endorsed Ritchie shortly after leaving the race.
