Doune of Invernochty
rdfs:comment
The Doune of Invernochty is a castle in Scotland, of which only earthworks survive. The name is a corruption of Dùn Inbhir Nochdaidh which means, in Gaelic, the "Fort of Invernochty (confluence of River Nochty)." Dating from around 800 AD it is a moated motte and was a stronghold of the Mormaer of Mar and is thus sometimes described as the 'Citadel of Mar'. The nearest villages are Bellabeg and Strathdon, the latter used to be called Invernochty.
