The Fellowship of the Ring was formed as a group of among members of the various free nations of Middle-earth and other worlds that are at risk. The group consisted of twenty members that have answered to Lord Elrond. The Fellowship of the Ring was formed as a brotherhood among members of the various Free Peoples of Middle-earth. Its purpose was to take the One Ring to Mordor that it might be cast into the fires of Mount Doom, the mountain in which it was forged, so that it would be destroyed and ultimately kill the Dark Lord Sauron. The Fellowship was also known as the Company of the Ring, the Nine Walkers, or more simply the Company. Each of the members of the Company were representatives of their respective races, with Legolas and Gimli being the only Elf and Dwarf chosen. The Fellowship of the Ring is the company of nine that sets out on the quest to destroy the One Ring in The Lord of the Rings. The first volume of the LotR trilogy is named after this company. The Fellowship of the Ring was a group formed after the Council of Elrond. It consisted of 4 hobbits (Frodo, Sam , Merry and Pippin ), 2 men (Aragorn and Boromir ), an elf , a dwarf and one of the Istari . The purpose of the group was to take the Ring to Mordor and cast it into the Fires of Mount Doom to be destroyed. The Fellowship was weakened when Gandalf fell in , and then dissolved when Boromir was killed at Amon Hen. Merry and Pippin had been captured by the Uruk-hai and were taken towards Fangorn Forest and Isengard . Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli chased the Uruks across Rohan , before joining Gandalf the White in the War of the Ring. Frodo and Sam journeyed to Mordor, with only Gollum as a guide.
