. X-Static Fm was a radio station owned and operated by the Marlborough Boys' College Blenheim New Zealand. It ran on a part time schedule from February 1986 till Mid 1991. The radio station broadcast frequency was 89.0Mhz with an output of 100watts EIRP. The antenna system was a stacked dipole with around 3-6dB gain. The transmitter was a PYE Cambridge made in 1982. Station equipment included: 1x Chilton CM2 mixing concol 2X Technics 1200 mk2 turn tables 3X Tascam 133 Cassette decks(which were replaced in 1988 with 2 Otari cart decks) 1X Otari reel to reel machine( this was increased to 2 in mid 1987) 1X Pye Cambridge FM transmitter 1X SCK stereo compressor/Limiter 1X Phillips CD player. The hours of operation where: 1986 Monday - Wednesday 12:20-1:20pm Wednesday-Thursday 12:20-1:20pm and

The radio station closed down over the Christmas break of 1987 to return in 1988 as "The New 89FM" Hours of Broadcast Monday - Thursdays 6:00am – 9:00am "The Breakfast Club" hosted by Shaun Malzard and Michelle Cotton. 12:00 -1:00pm then 4:00-10:00pm with Friday's afternoon broadcast 12:00pm –12:00am Saturday and Sunday 6:00am – 12:00am. By the end of 1988 89FM were broadcasting 7 days a week 6:00am – 12:00am. In 1990 The radio station moved its operations from the High School to the 5th floor of the Blenheim Post Office Building. This is where it stayed until the launch of the full time FM radio station Sounds 93FM.
