Old Sopenal Straecy Ruess (born -56) is a former Consul of Roam. A second generation Straequian citizen, with both fathers elected as Sentinel, he was the first (and the second) Provincial Consul. Old Sopenal is an examplar of the Straequian warrior tradition, serving for six years as an Officer during the Crylaltian War. He was then elected as a Marshal and returned to Crylalt, though he found himself frustrated by Proud Machyal Sarevir-Machyal's lack of deference to his constitutional authority. (Both men had been married to Anylyal Panth Galvens, who had been murdered at the outbreak of the Second Civil War). Old Sopenal broke new ground in Roaman politics in the new democracy following the end of the Tyranny, being elected as the first ever Provincial Consul alongside Young Semural Voriel Juctor. He begrudgingly approved the appointment of Proud Machyal as a special Marshal to deal with the piracy problem in the Issycrian Sound. He was re-elected as Sentinel during the final year of the Home War under Old Machyal Candoam and Otibryal Sarevir Voriel. Old Sopenal was elected as Consul a second time alongside Fawning Pampal Sarevir Voriel ten years after his first term. To afford the campaign, he is said to have received a loan from Scruval Qualens, to whom he seems to have become affiliated. Old Sopenal's husband Soft Ormanal Candoam Barbar is the current Captain of the Deforite Well.
