Apollo 11 was the name of the NASA mission which first landed a man on the moon. It involved many different devices and vehicles, invented/developed by many different organizations. The Apollo spacecraft basically consisted of two vehicles. The Apollo Command/Service Module, which housed the crew, was developed and built by North American Aviation. The Lunar Module, the part that brought the crew from lunar orbit to the lunar surface and back, was built by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. Both the NAA and Grumman ued various subcontractors.
