In 1901, the Moderate Party was founded upon the temperance movement, and economic liberalism, and was popular among conservative farmers, business owners and urban Protestants. The Liberal Party was created in 1969 as part of the counterculture that arose during the 60's, primarily composed primarily of African-Americans and the youth. During the 1980's the two political parties formed a coalition that supported liberalization of the nations economy, and the privatization of key industries. In 2008, the Moderate Party lost its social conservative wing, falling into obscurity.

n36:abstract
In 1901, the Moderate Party was founded upon the temperance movement, and economic liberalism, and was popular among conservative farmers, business owners and urban Protestants. The Liberal Party was created in 1969 as part of the counterculture that arose during the 60's, primarily composed primarily of African-Americans and the youth. During the 1980's the two political parties formed a coalition that supported liberalization of the nations economy, and the privatization of key industries. In 2008, the Moderate Party lost its social conservative wing, falling into obscurity. In December of 2016, the two parties agreed to a charter that proclaimed a unified ticket that supported the ideas of progressivism, social liberalism and social democracy. Supporters for the merge claimed that the ruling party at the time, the Federalist Party, had drifted away from supporting labor, minorities, and was succumbing to a growing Alt-right element within the party. The party's popularity grew dramatically with the introduction of William Abernathy to the national scene and in response to the political polarization of the nation.
