Calmar of Mack's well, better known to his contemporaries as Master Moneybags , was a wealthy business magnate and politician and for long years sucessful Master of Laketown. In times of hardships and decline Moneybags kept up bonds with the Elves of the Woodland-realm, the men of far Dorwinion and the Dwarves of the Iron Hills and eluded the perils of the minions of the Necromancer of Dol Guldur and foraging Easterlings. He was well respected by the citizens of Esgaroth, but he was also known to be prone to bribery and corruption and use dubious methods and henchmen to ensure his position and personal wealth. However he proved an able mediator and tactician and seemed the best choice to lead the men of Lake-town in a difficult time. After all doom stroke Master Moneybags after he had survived the devastation of Esgaroth by the Dragon Smaug. The citizens of Lake-town were recompensed for the destruction of their town by the dwarves of Erebor and had been given a quite enormous part of Smaug's hoard, Bard Bowman, hero, Dragonslayer and heir of Dale led many Northmen to rebuilt the ancient city of Dale and Moneybags saw his importance fade away, with several cronies he embezzled a great share of Esgaroth's reparations and fled to former foreign business partners. After a long and misfortunate odyssey he died of starving, alone, deceived and left by his former fellows, in the eastern wastes.
