Gul Danar was a Cardassian military officer who served as the commander of the Galor-class starship Aldara. In 2369, he was assigned to hunt down the Kohn-Ma terrorist Tahna Los. He pursued Los to Deep Space 9, where he demanded that Commander Benjamin Sisko turn Los over to him. Sisko instead decided to grant Los asylum. Sisko then requested that Danar’s help in stopping Los who had stolen the USS Yangtzee Kiang and loaded it with a bilitrium-based explosive in an attempt to close the Bajoran wormhole. Danar was a Cardassian male and a Gul in the Cardassian Guard in the 2360s and 2370s. He commanded the Galor-class starship Aldara. By 2361, the Obsidian Order had discovered that Danar bore a resemblance to several Humans, Klingons and Romulans and considered him as a candidate to be surgically altered for Order missions. Danar always refused, but Corbin Entek considered that Danar would have lacked the subtlety required for Order operations anyway. (DS9 novel: Fearful Symmetry) This may have been a tip of the hat to the actor who played Danar, Vaughn Armstrong, who had also played various Humans, Klingons, Romulans and other roles in many Star Trek episodes. In 2369, Danar and his ship pursued the Bajoran Tahna Los, who had killed many Cardassians and had also stolen a antimatter converter, into the Bajor system and to Deep Space 9. Danar attempted to pursuade Benjamin Sisko to turn Tahna over to him, although Sisko refused. Danar later took the Aldara back into Cardassian space. Sisko later contacted Danar to ask if his ship was in range of the hijacked USS Yangtzee Kiang, which was carrying a bilitrium explosive device. The Aldara was not, although Danar began to tell Sisko he had warned him about Tahna, before Sisko ended the connection. (DS9 episode: "Past Prologue"; WizKids module: Attack Wing) Danar returned to DS9 in 2370, after it was believed some Bajorans factions had been attacking Cardassian ships. (DS9 novel: The Big Game) After the incident with Tahna Los, Danar was reported by Doctor Julian Bashir as a typical xenophobic member of the Cardassian military. Klingon Imperial Intelligence has noted that he was served with distinction during the Klingon-Cardassian War and it is also known that he was a strong supporter of Cardassia's alliance with the Dominion. Despite his xenophobia, he is known to have worked well with the Jem'Hadar and during the Dominion War it was believed he was assigned to one of the reactivated Tonga class blockade runners. (DS9 video game: Dominion Wars) Danar was a fan of vole fights and had engineering, navigation and astrophysics experience. (DS9: ) Danar was a Cardassian military officer serving during the late-24th century. By the year 2369, he had achieved the rank of gul and served as commander of the Galor-class warship Aldara. Later that year, Danar was ordered to apprehend the Bajoran Kohn-Ma terrorist Tahna Los, who he pursued to Deep Space 9. Danar demanded that Commander Sisko hand over Tahna to him, but Sisko denied his request to consider Tahna's application for political asylum. In order to speak with Tahna in private, Sisko ordered Operations Chief Miles O'Brien to put Danar and his ship through lengthy "docking regulations", much to Danar's frustration. In the episode, Danar does not introduce himself to Sisko, yet the commander appears to know his name, suggesting he already knew of the Cardassian prior to his arrival at the station. After Sisko had granted Tahna's request for asylum, an angry Danar left Deep Space 9 for Cardassian space, however, he was later contacted by Sisko for help in apprehending the USS Yangtzee Kiang, which Tahna had hijacked and equipped with a bilitrium-based explosive device hoping it would destroy the Bajoran wormhole. Danar ordered his ship to intercept the runabout but not before trying to tell Sisko he was right about Tahna. (DS9: "Past Prologue")
