The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, fifth generation multirole fighters under development to perform ground attack, reconnaissance, and air defense missions with stealth capability. The F-35 has three main models; the F-35A is a conventional takeoff and landing variant, the F-35B is a short take-off and vertical-landing variant, and the F-35C is a carrier-based variant. In GI Cop Hunters this jet was delivered to the Cop Hunters in Light in the Dark to counter the Nazi and Soviet cops most advanced flying vehicles and was built to fight the Nazi Lord that swarmed the F-18 Hornets with its Me-262s. Unfortunately these planes were still prototypes, were very expensive and Duke still flies his F-18 due to the F-35s are only built in limited numbers. Latter the F-35 serve alongside the F-18s in fighting the soviet cops Air Force including fighting mig fighters of the soviet cops and the evil Mega evolved soviet cop Ivan Sovietbreath. The F-35 is the result of the Defense Department's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, which sought to build a multirole fighter optimized for the air-to-ground role with secondary air-to-air capability. By using many of the same technologies developed for the F-22, the F-35 has the opportunity to capitalize on commonality and modularity to maximize affordability. De Lockheed Martin-F-35 Lightning II is een straaljager die voortgekomen is uit het Joint Strike Fighter-programma (JSF) van het Amerikaanse ministerie van defensie. Zolang het programma geen resultaat opleverde werd de F-35 ook Joint Strike Fighter genoemd, maar sinds het ontwerp van Lockheed Martin het won van het ontwerp van Boeing (model X-32) is de naam F-35 Lightning II gekozen. De naam van het programma werd kort daarop ook F-35 Lightning II-programma. Deze straaljager is een doorontwikkelde versie van de Lockheed Martin-X-35. Er worden 3 varianten van de F-35 geproduceerd : een standaarduitvoering (F-35A), een variant die verticaal kan landen (F-35B) en een marinevariant voor gebruik op de vliegkampschepen (F-35C). In 2001 koos de Nederlandse staat de F35A in principe als vervanger van de vloot van F-16's, na een lange discussie of men niet mee moest doen met de ontwikkeling van de Eurofighter. The F-35 took its first flight on 15 December 2006. The United States plans to buy 2,443 aircraft. The Lockheed Martin X-35 was chosen over the competing Boeing X-32 primarily because of Lockheed’s lift-fan STOVL design, which proved superior to the Boeing vectored-thrust approach. The lift fan, which is powered by the aircraft engine via a clutched driveshaft, was technically challenging but DoD concluded that Lockheed has the technology in hand. The lift fan has significant excess power which could be critical given the weight gain that all fighter aircraft experience. Lockheed Martin developed four versions of the Joint Strike Fighter to fulfill the needs of the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force and the United Kingdom Royal Air Force and Navy. All versions have the same fuselage and internal weapons bay, common outer mold lines with similar structural geometries, identical wing sweeps, and comparable tail shapes. The weapons are stored in two parallel bays located aft of the main landing gear. The canopy, radar, ejection system, subsystems, and avionics are all common among all different version as is the core engine which is based on the F119 by Pratt & Whitney.
