The Academy for Sustainable Communities was a key recommendation from the Egan Review of Skills. It will work with a wide range of professionals, occupations and stakeholders to develop the integrated skills needed to deliver places where people want to live and work. This includes cross-occupational working and generic skills, such as leadership, project management, financial management and community engagement. The ASC is based in Leeds, hosted by Yorkshire Forward. In December 2005, the Deputy Prime Minister hosted an Informal Council on Sustainable Communities, under the UK's Presidency of the European Union, in Bristol. Ministers endorsed the 'Bristol Accord' - a new framework for EU Governments to deliver sustainable communties for Europe’s 450 million citizens. Ministers also agreed to a UK-led programme of work to foster generic 'place-making' skills - for which the Academy for Sustainable Communities leads on behalf of the UK government and in cooperation with URBACT.
