The Campania is a luxury passenger ship owned by the Blue Star Line. The Campania was a passenger liner built in 1892 for the Cunard Line. She served the transatlantic route to New York, winning the prestigious Blue Riband in 1893, and her marginally faster sister ship SS Lucania even held the Blue Riband from 1894 to 1898. She had reached the end of her career in 1914 and was waiting for demolition, when she was bought by the Royal Navy and converted to a seaplane tender. In 1915, it was decided to try and convert her once more into a carrier for land planes, which involved the installation of a flight deck.
