The Forest Guard is an elite Erathian fighting force that appears in Heroes III and Heroes IV. They are experts in guerrilla warfare, and are described as "Erathia's eyes and ears." Despite being Erathian, most of the members of the group are elves - in fact, the only human commander in the history of the Forest Guard was Ryland. The Forest Guard often fought in joint operations with the armies of AvLee. Their leader has the title of "Captain of the Forest Guard". The first known captain was Caleb. After his death, Gelu was appointed to the role.

After his death, Gelu was appointed to the role. After the Reckoning, the Forest Guard chose to become a part of the elven nation of Aranorn. During the Aranorn Civil War, most of their members chose to side with Lord Harke, their former commander, over the new Elf King Elwin.
