n28:abstract
Mario is a default playable character in Super Smash Bros. Miscela and Super Duper Smash Bros.. He is voiced by Charles Martinet, though a large majority of his voice clips are reused from other titles. Mario is the namesake and main protagonist of the overall Super Mario series of video games. Mario is one of the most well-known fictional characters in existence, being among the likes of Mickey Mouse and Homer Simpson. Mario's past has been explained and retconned on a variety of occasions. Most notably, Mario and his younger twin brother Luigiℳ were originally two plumbers from Brooklyn, who entered the Mushroom Kingdom after finding a secret Warp Pipe in a client's drain. This was the story used most by Nintendo of America for explaining Mario's past, and was included within the 1990 DiC animated series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and also explained his many appearances in generic profession-based games such as Wrecking Crew and Donkey Kong. This story contradicts the plot of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island however, as that game depicts the baby versions of Mario and Luigi as they meet the Yoshis of Yoshi's Island for the first time, when the latter baby is kidnapped by Kamek and Baby Bowser. No matter the reasoning for their appearance in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and Luigi have remained there, fighting Bowser and the other evils that plague the kingdom. The two have gained the respect of the kingdom's ruler, Princess Peachℳ, whom has also shown a romantic interest in Mario. Inside the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario's popularity far exceeds Luigi's, as the latter is often talked down to by the foes he faces and his name forgotten by most inhabitants of the kingdom. Mario, on the other hand, is often depicted as the kingdom's biggest celebrity, with a large majority of citizens praising him and asking for his autograph.
