n14:abstract
Lt. Stan Holliwell was an Internal Affairs officer who was on Victor Racine's payroll. Holliwell made Ike Thornton look like a dirty cop to divert attention from himself, forcing Ike to fake his own death and go into hiding, to escape being arrested or killed. He also tortured and murdered Paul Finch when Ike and Paul attempted to rob Racine's safe to find his ledger which would identity his real police contact. Holliwell later come by the 12th Precinct to question Ike's former partner, Esposito, as to whether he had been in contact with Ike, as his fingerprint was found on Paul's closed eye, implicating him in the murder. Esposito denied his accusations and took a polygraph to clear his name, to Holliwell's disappointment. Holliwell dropped by again to inform Beckett's team that he intercepted chatter in Racine's organization and learned that Racine had put a price on Ike's head. Later, Holliwell tracked Esposito's cellphone GPS and confronted him and Ike during their attempt to acquire the book. However, his corruption was exposed when Captain Montgomery called in a few favors to find the paperwork identifying Holliwell's original informant; he had listed Esposito as the source of the original accusation, something that the team knew was impossible. This discovery allowed the detectives to take action. Lt. Holliwell and Ike had injured each other in a final stand-off. While walking away wounded with the ledger, the police arrived as Holliwell makes an attempt to claim that Ike and Esposito were working together. Beckett orders Lt. Holliwell to drop his weapon before she drops him. Upon finding himself surrounded upon Kevin Ryan appearing behind him, Lt. Holliwell did what Beckett said. The police then arrest Lt. Holliwell for the murder of Paul Finch while Beckett, Castle, and Ryan checked up on Esposito and Thornton. Ryan was ready to exploit his existing wound, if that was what it took to make sure they got to Javi and Ike in time. Ryan then found his broken keychain from the 54th precinct, the broken half being found at the crime scene, proving Holliwell's part in Paul's murder.
