Chayon-ryu ("natural way") is a teaching method founded by Grandmaster Kim Pyung-soo. Upon inauguration in 1970, this teaching method was based upon Grandmaster Kim Pyung-soo's training and teaching experiences from 1951–1968 in Seoul, Korea, and from 1968–1970 in Houston, Texas, United States. Since 1970, the Chayon-ryu teaching method has evolved based upon Grandmaster Kim Pyung-soo's experience instructing students at his Houston-area schools: the University of Houston college credit karate classes since 1973, and Rice University college credit karate classes since 1981.

The curriculum of Chayon-ryu encompasses the comprehensive inclusion of the individual curricula learned from the Changmoo-kwan, Kangduk-Won, Sungmoo-Kwan, and Kangmoo-Kwan. Students simultaneously learn each of these arts while adhering to the teaching method designed by Grandmaster Kim.
