The Chechens did manage to free there territory after several Luftwaffe arms drops, but this prove very costly for the Luftwaffe, due to the large concentration of Soviet anti-Aircraft guns around Groznyy. The only major gains were in the Maykop and Krasnodar regions of the Kuban, but the losses and the sinking of one of the six German frigates and a Turkish volunteer’s patrol boat by a covert SPETNAZ solo submarine unit made the overall strategic value of the operation become rather dubious.
