Overseer-class ancilla were actually quite similar in appearance to the Monitor-class ancilla designed specifically for the Halo Array, although the Overseer-class was envisioned long before the Halos were constructed. Once physical difference between Overseers and Monitors was the way that Overseers possesed a more fleshed-out shell, and a smaller central eye, which was actually a flattened disk. When charging its only mounted weapon, a directed energy beam, the disk eye would begin to rotate and a ball of light would form in the center. After a number of seconds, this bolt of energy would form a long, narrow beam of white energy. This bolt could do much more than damage its target, but short circuit electrical systems and melt concentrated energy shields. The only disadvantages of using this weapon was the charging time necessary and its narrow, concentrated linear pulse. The energy weapon found in Overseers differs from that in Monitors, because the former was not adapted to better combat the Flood. Surprisingly, though, the Overseers' mounted weapon was more devastating to life-forms such as humans and Sangheili. Like the Monitor-class, many variants exist, such as the unidentified science and research variant identified on Line Installation 0-4, 686 Ebullient Prism.
