Rod of Animal Affinity (3.5e Equipment)
rdfs:comment
Summary::The Rod of Animal Affinity brings domination over a whole species of animals of a certain kind. They often are named rods of cat affinity, rods of bear affinity, rods of raptor affinity, or similar names and only work for animals of that particular species (so a rod of cat affinity would work both on the common housecat and a lion, but not a dog). They are silver rods embossed with images of their associated species, interlinked with each other to form a pattern, and the top is tipped with a crystal which pulses with a dim red glow, and often flashes bright crimson while in use.

While holding the rod the user may cast a special version of awaken 1/day on the target species as a standard action. The target animal has its intelligence rise to 10, Charisma improves by +3, gains no additional HD (but any HD less than 1 are raised to a minimum of 1 HD), and the target becomes a magical beast. The subject animal is generally friendly to the user. In addition the user gains the wild empathy ability of the druid, with an effective druid level equal to your hit dice. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. The user rolls 1d20 and adds her hit dice and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. This ability can only be used on animals of the appropriate species, and magical beasts which have been transformed by the awakening power of the rod. You may speak with animals as the spell at will with your target species. Moderate transmutation; CL 9th; Craft Rod, awaken, speak with animals; Price Cost::15,000 gp; Cost 7,500 gp + 600 XP.
