Tacitus is a human who works in a mercenary trio which also includes Dredge Bloodharvester and Dysangeline Silberncedar. The Magicracy of Alent hired the trio to locate and bring back the fugitive Razravkar Dominus. After they had finished their mission and brought Razravkar back to Alent, the trio collected the fee and left on another assignment. Der Tacitus ist ein Gerät der Scrin, der aus zwei Teilen besteht. Tacitus was a Roman senator and writer. He wrote about the Germanic tribes in Germania. Der Tacitus ist ein Gerät der Scrin, der aus zwei Teilen besteht. Der erste Teil wird in der GDI-Kampagne in einem abgestürzten Scrin-Raumschiff geborgen. Er fällt allerdings der Bruderschaft von NOD in die Hände, welche ihn mit der Hilfe des Mutanten Tratos erforschen. Tratos findet heraus, dass der Tacitus ein fortschrittlicher Datenspeicher ist, dessen Informationen er im Dienste Kanes übersetzt. Dabei wird er von Kanes KI CABAL untestützt. Kane erhält durch die Daten des Tacitus die Informationen um die Erde zu zerstören Beziehungsweise sie vollständig mit Tiberium zu überziehen. Tratos weiß, was er der Erde damit antut, kann es aber nicht verhindern, da er Kanes Gefangener ist. Am Ende der Kampagne tötet man Kane und nimmt den Tacitus wieder an sich. In der Feuersturm-Kampagne der GDI versuchte man, den Tacitus zu Tratos bringen, da er der einzige war, der ihn übersetzen konnte. Man erhoffte sich im Tacitus Informationen zu finden, mit der man die rasche Ausbreitung des thumb|Der Tacitus in einem GDI-LaborTiberiums verhindern könnte. Leider wird in dieser Zeit Tratos ermordet und die einzige Möglichkeit um an die Informationenzu kommen lautet CABAL, Kanes KI. CABAL eröffnet einem, dass der zweite Teil in Süd-Amerika in einem Tempel verborgen liegt und man nur mit ihm die Informationen lesen kann. Im Laufe der Kampagne findet man diesen Teil. Das Ende der Kampagne erklärt, dass der zweite Teil des Tacitus als Linse fungiert und die bisher für die GDI-Forscher unleserlichen Daten entschlüsselt.
