Josie Gillman is a student at Whateley Academy. She's a member of the Class of 2010. She's not a mutant, but instead the survivor of a family curse, which leads the occasional male member to become capable of travelling through non-Euclidean space and become the dish du jour of an alien monstrosity with a taste for noshing on Gillmans. Somehow, female Gillmans just don't taste right, and as a result of the actions of Ecila Mason Josh is now a girl, and off the menu.
