In this comic, the characters play a high-stakes "game" called Sburb that involves reality alteration, and the creation of worlds and universes. In the game, there are two competing factions on the worlds of Prospit (white) and Derse (black). Jack Noir is the Archagent of Derse, a high-level bureaucrat reporting directly to the Black Queen. |- |This article is about the incredibly powerful character from another session of BZPB. For the member of the Blackout Destruction Society, see Jack. |} At some point in BZPB where Jade Harley was a player, her bizarre, freakishly powerful dog named "Bec" Prototyped itself into the game, knowing that it would become part of the Final Boss, and thus would give Jade the best chance for survival. Jack Noir is an Agent of Derse who appears in every session of Sburb. He oversees various affairs of the kingdom and does all of the most important and most tedious paperwork, and is the direct subordinate of the King and Queen. In the kids' session, he slew the Queen, and soon after, the King, declaring himself as the Sovereign Slayer and wreaking havoc on the Medium. Karkat has identified him as the "cancer" he created in the kids' session.

Jack Noir is an Agent of Derse who appears in every session of Sburb. He oversees various affairs of the kingdom and does all of the most important and most tedious paperwork, and is the direct subordinate of the King and Queen. In the kids' session, he slew the Queen, and soon after, the King, declaring himself as the Sovereign Slayer and wreaking havoc on the Medium. Karkat has identified him as the "cancer" he created in the kids' session. A "Jack" is a face card in a normal deck of cards that ranks below the king and queen, and "Noir" is a pun on the detective film genre film noir, an allusion to Problem Sleuth, and Jack's alternate universe counterpart. "Noir" also means "black" in French, making his full name a pun on the card game Blackjack. (Resemblance to the name Jack Black is just an amusing coincidence.) Bec Noir, the name given to Jack's fully prototyped form, is possibly a play on the French phrase bête noire, meaning "black beast" literally, or used as slang for a pet peeve or something feared obsessively. |- |This article is about the incredibly powerful character from another session of BZPB. For the member of the Blackout Destruction Society, see Jack. |} At some point in BZPB where Jade Harley was a player, her bizarre, freakishly powerful dog named "Bec" Prototyped itself into the game, knowing that it would become part of the Final Boss, and thus would give Jade the best chance for survival. Unfortunately, this most loyal action inevitably doomed them, and ended up in creating the Jack Noir who has invaded the multiverse. He was first seen busting right through a manifestation of The Fourth Wall to enter Socah's house, before teleporting. Supremely violent and sadistic, Jack Noir will kill anyone and anything that he sees. As if this were not enough of a problem, the powers he inherited from Bec were amplified by Jack's form, and resulted in a being who was able to traverse the unorthodox time-space laws outside conventional reality with no ill effects, and can effortlessly kill a being of User Zev's level. Had it not been for said User hacking the new game so that he would able to use his own murder's circumstances to attain the level of God-Tier, Jack would have likely wrought incredible havoc in BZPower. In the game, there are two competing factions on the worlds of Prospit (white) and Derse (black). Jack Noir is the Archagent of Derse, a high-level bureaucrat reporting directly to the Black Queen. The war between Prospit and Derse is influenced by the actions of the players. The players are guided in the game by a Kernelsprite. This sprite takes the form of whatever objects the player "prototypes" by placing them in the kernel. The agents of Prospit and Derse also receive the effects of this prototyping, changing their appearances accordingly. The first two players, John Egbert and Rose Lalonde, prototyped a one-armed harlequin doll, a princess doll with tentacles and a dead cat between them, forcing the agents of Derse and Prospit to wear silly costumes. The third player, Dave Strider, prototyped a dead crow impaled on a sword. Each group of players spawns a new session of Sburb, and the game has a "hyper-flexible" mythology that tailors itself to that particular group. One of the few constants is Jack Noir and his contempt for his superiors, the Black Queen in particular. He spends most of his time in his office avoiding paperwork and handing out sword and hit lists to anyone who wants a favor from him. He also has detailed plans for usurping and exiling the Black Queen, providing savvy players the opportunity to team up with him and avoid fighting one of the most powerful enemies in the game.
