Yes Full Answer from John Ashtone You have the modern world because of it. The ancient Greeks first applied the idea, and a chap called Roger Bacon was probably the first Englishman in 13th Century to try and deduct by Scientific reasoning. It was in the 17th Century throughout Europe and the age of enlightenment that Scientific reasoning really started to be applied. This led to various discoveries not least Electricity, also improvements in Steam power by James Watt. He was at Edinburgh University and asked to repair a model of a Newcommen Steam Engine, he realised that if you had a separate condensing boiler for the steam he could make improvements to efficiency, his first trial was 8 times more powerful for the same weight of engine and amount of coal to power it. He invented the concept of horse power to measure output so that comparisons could be made. Michael Faraday was a member of the Royal Institution and experimented with electricity and invented the Dynamo and Alternator, which along with Electricity power the modern world.
